AEM Performance Electronics is partnering with noted high-performance marine engine builder BoostPower Marine USA, Inc., to bring its Infinity stand-alone programmable ECU platform high-performance marine engine electronic fuel-injection market. The news was announced earlier this week in a press release from the Hawthorne, Calif.-based engine electronics company.

According to the release, the controller’s software architecture for marine applications include features critical to successful operation in a marine environment, as well as additional capabilities not commonly found in many popular dedicated marine EFI systems such as boost control, electronic throttle control, multiple mapping with map switching capability, flex-fuel blending, oil/coolant/fuel/lean/over-boost, engine protection, user defined inputs and outputs, data logging up to 64GB and more. The Infinity’s housing is sealed and has IP67-rated ports for tuning and data logging (dustproof, waterproof to 1m). The Infinity comes fully enabled with no additional cost to enable features.

To ensure that all features and capabilities necessary for successful operation on a marine engine were incorporated and thoroughly vetted, AEM has developed a strategic partnership with Alexi Sahagian, the president of BoostPower Marine based in Newbury Park, Calif.

“Alexi’s experience in both pro-engine building and design, and sophisticated EFI systems for high performance marine builds is an invaluable asset ensuring that we deliver the most critical features for operating marine engines and that the user interface we provide makes the Infinity ECU the easiest, most powerful EFI solution for marine use,” said Greg Neuwirth, the president of AEM Performance Electronics, in the release. “Our companies align very well. We both have a commitment to innovation and delivering the best, most reliable products.”

“Finally—I’ve been in this business for almost 30 years and until now, not one ECU has been able to incorporate all of the functions and features needed for high performance marine engines and drivetrains,” Sahagian said in the release. “Through our collaboration, an ECU is now available that has unlimited tune-ability, multiple configuration options, safety features and an array of options for successful integration and reliability across a broad group of marine applications. We put a lot of pride in our builds and for them to be successful the ECU and related items need to be. We have achieved this with the launch of the Infinity ECU for the marine market.”

Built around a latest-generation 32-bit floating point 200MHz automotive processor and Real Time Operating System (RTOS), the Infinity reportedly is capable of processing 400 MIPS (millions of instructions per second). According to the release, that could give the Infinity ECU the fastest processing speed of any aftermarket programmable ECU on the market. As noted in the release, the Infinity ECU is a “true programmable stand-alone EFI system that requires tuning by a professional tuner” and is not, as such, a self-tuning system.
